  • Click on the blue words below for some photos of it:

Saturday October 19

Road Tour of 287 km | 178 mi

After a delicious breakfast, we will start this morning's 135 km | 84 mi road tour @ 8:30 AM.
An hour later, we stop in France for a first break of 45'. Time for coffee or another drink.

Thanks to our connection with the major of this village, we can count on a reserved parking space for our cars along the water, and in front of where we 'll have a drink.
After driving briefly through France, we drive back into Belgium and pass Vresse-sur-Semois, among other nice villages, before we drive up and have a second break in La Cabane at the Castle of Bouillon.

The Semois, seen from our route

We can enjoy the beautiful view of the castle, the Semois and the city of Bouillon.

Castle of Bouillon

Then it is another 33 km to our lunch stop in the village of Sainte Cécile.

On the way there we pass the famous Bridge of Herbeumont.

This morning we crossed no fewer than 3 nature parks, namely "Parc naturel Viroin Hermeton", "Parc naturel régional des Ardennes" and "Parc naturel de l'Ardenne méridionale".

Bridge of Herbeumont

After our lunch, another 152 km | 94 mi of beautiful roads await us.
We first drive via "Parc naturel Haute-Sûre Forêt d'Anlier" to Luxembourg.

Parc naturel de la Haute-Sûre

After we have entered Luxembourg, we set course via beautiful, billiard-smooth roads to the Lac de la Haute Sûre, where we drive over the "Barrage d'Esch-sur-Sûre" a little later.

Left: Esch-sur-Sûre dam

A few kilometers later we end up in Esch-sur-Sûre.

This is called by many the most beautiful village in Luxembourg.

Esch-sur-Sûre

We then drive a circle around (the remains of) "Château d'Esch-sur-Sûre".

At the top: Château d'Esch-sur-Sûre

About 30 kilometers later we arrive in the next Luxembourg pearl: Clervaux.

Château de Clervaux

We drive to "Château de Clervaux" and stop for an hour to visit the fantastic "Museum of the Battle of the Ardennes".

In the winter of 1944/1945, the Third Reich began its final offensive against the Allies in the Ardennes, which marked the beginning of the "Battle of the Bulge". On December 16, 1944, German troops under the command of General Von Rundstedt attacked the weakly defended American positions along the Sauer and Our rivers. Most of the Ösling was evacuated, but there were still many casualties among the civilian population. In response, General Patton moved his Third Army from the Saar to Luxembourg. In intensive fighting he recaptured the northern sector.

The Museum of the Battle of the Bulge recalls this dark but decisive period in the last century. The Battle of the Bulge lasted almost two months and was one of the largest and most chaotic battles of World War II. The battle permanently drove the German occupier out of Luxembourg.

Those who are not interested in culture and/or history can have a drink nearby.

After this stop we start the last 52 kilometers of the day to our hotel in Bollendorf, Germany.

Before we cross the border between Luxembourg and Germany, we drive past the beautiful Vianden Castle.

Vianden Castle

No stop has been planned here, but castle lovers can of course do this on their own initiative, because it is truly a beautiful heirloom.

From here to Hotel Eden au Lac, where we will spend the night, only 20 km remain.

After an invigorating shower, we round off this beautiful day with a nice aperitif, followed by a delicious meal together.
